María Buchinger & her dog Max

She understood how to gather a team around her, able to further develop her father's work according to his principles, and taking into account the latest research findings. She followed her father's motto "We want to continue to wake up" throughout her life. Maria Buchinger took a keen interest in religious and philosophical questions. For her, expanding consciousness was always connected with opening up to the outside world.
Maria Buchinger liked to transcend limits and reach for new horizons. The giant leap to Southern Europe in 1973 was a logical consequence. The married couple Wilhelmi-Buchinger found the ideal location for a further fasting clinic in Marbella. Here in Andalusia, far away from her family, her mother tongue and her familiar environment, in a country where no-one had heard of Dr. Buchinger and therapeutic fasting up to that point, Maria Buchinger was a pioneer. Her elegant appearances and also her inimitable, attentive way of looking after guests were legendary. Everyone felt personally attended to and introduced by her to the large fasting community.

Maria Buchinger was born in Flensburg in 1916 as the fourth child of Otto Buchinger, who at that time was working as a naval doctor. After her A-levels and professional training, she worked from 1938 onwards as her father's closest colleague. In 1943, Maria Buchinger married Helmut Wilhelmi. After the end of the Second World War, the married couple founded a new clinic in the beautiful cultural landscape of Lake Constance in 1953.

The field of work of Maria Buchinger, whose three children Raimund, Maike and Jutta were born between 1949 and 1952, rapidly expanded in Überlingen. With the energetic support of her husband, she succeeded in popularising the Buchinger therapeutic fasting method in Southern Germany via the clinic in Überlingen, making it accessible to thousands of new patients. |
